INTERNSHIP WEEK 6 at ABS-CBN

It was an ‘architecture’ week for the three of us because we were asked to sketch the floorplan of the office of News & Current Affairs Group (NCAG), NCAG HR, NCAG Engineering, NCAG Finance, Newsroom, Studios 6 and 7, and Media Assets. We finalized the floorplans on Paint and Microsoft Powerpoint for presentation. Sketching the workstations, somehow enhanced my creativity and drawing skills.

INTERNSHIP WEEK 5 at ABS-CBN

Finally, we were given a new assignment for this week aside from the never-ending tally of advisories we did with the past four weeks of our training. We were designated to conduct an inventory of computers used in the office of News & Current Affairs Group (NCAG), NCAG HR, NCAG Engineering, NCAG Finance, Newsroom, Studios 6 and 7, and Media Assets. We had to identify the computers whether it is generic LCD, generic CRT, assist or Mac. It turned out that most of the employees use generic computers. Only the editing rooms and heads’ offices often use assist/Mac PCs.

INTERNSHIP WEEK 4 at ABS-CBN

As for our additional work, I tallied the advisories for the month of February 21-28, 2010 then we included the results on the previous tallied and finalized outcome on Microsoft Excel. Because of the task, it taught me how to tally the results easier and more efficient. I also discovered other tools and operations on Microsoft Excel.

INTERNSHIP WEEK 3 at ABS-CBN

Catching up with our deadline, I finished tallying the advisories for the months of July and August 2010. We finalized the tallied results on Microsoft Excel. I found out that reporters follow a particular format in writing their news scripts. Journalist Willard Cheng is one of the news reporters who has the most number of reports submitted.

INTERNSHIP WEEK 2 at ABS-CBN

We continued the task that was assigned to us the previous week. After finishing the tally for March, I started doing the tally of the advisories for the month of June 2010. This process consumed most of my time so I arranged the reporters’ names in alphabetical order for easier tallying on paper. After doing such, I became more familiar in using Avid iNews 3.0. I also noticed that ABS-CBN News has its own trust-worthy and credible reporters, from its main anchors up to its regional and even global reporters. They come up with the latest news and updates everyday just to render service to the public.

INTERNSHIP WEEK 1 at ABS-CBN

Karen, Kim and I were assigned at News and Current Affairs Division of ABS-CBN, particularly at the iNews Department. We were introduced to our supervisor Mr. Marden Edward Quirapas. With no idea with what we’re going to do there, we were asked to return the next day. So to formally start my internship, I was tasked to tally the advisories for the month of March 2010. I had to note the names of all the news reporters who submitted their news reports. That same day, I learned how to use Avid iNews 3.0. ‘iNews’ is the database where all advisories and reports are located. And because of that, I discovered the reporters’ format in writing their news script.
